Karera is not a single vertical drop but a sequence of cascades moving through a green, rocky setting. Paths connect different viewpoints, each changing the scale and sound of the water. The surrounding drive reveals a quieter side of Burundi through farms, hills and smaller towns.
Water volume and trail conditions are seasonal. After rain the falls can be powerful and the ground slippery; in drier periods, the rock formations become more visible. Either way, sensible footwear and an unhurried visit make a large difference.
